Oceans of pop-goodness washing over packaged percussion, all to synth explosions to compliment the vocals, Like a Lion comes to us in a language where we can all relate. Complacent to the lyrics of Matt & Kim, “Lost at Sea” begins to strip down life to one other person and goes through with it. It’s really sweet and it is not as easy going against the current. The upbeat nature of the music takes us in another direction and keeps us wayward throughout, but in the end, it all makes sense.

DannielRadall — “The Blue Sky (a-ha remix)”

Overflowing synth-waves straight out of the cassette found in an 80s Trans Am and soundtracked to an unreleased Hughes film, you begin to question how you got there. Then, opening the glove box and, while spilling reverb, you soon seem to forget. Time is lost, but this music has found it. Hesitant through flipping to side b, but it’s there again and hopefully it’s there to stay.

It was only recently that DannielRadall released Pardo, the latest EP from DannielRadall. The excitement behind this was there all the way, with DannielRadall releasing new songs from it leading up to its release. It’s only fitting that this wonderful remix, by a-ha, is followed.

“Wake and Be Fine” - Okkervil River

Okkervil River have released “Wake and Be Fine,” the first single from their upcoming album which they performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, for free on their website. A track alternating between sharp bounce and beauteous grace at the drop of a dime, it is an enthralling piece, abetted by a powerful string accompaniment. If Will Sheff’s work on the rest of the album matches up, this album will end up on top of the heap this year. I Am Very Far will be released May 10th by Jagjaguwar.

Dumbo Gets Mad — “Plumy Tale”

Hard not to imagine, Austin Powers taking strolls to this music. A solo project out of Northern Italy and taken to Los Angeles, Dumbo Gets Mad found it’s sound first with “Plumy Tale” and from here it was expanded into Elephants At the Door, an album that can best be described by the man behind it all; “No matter what it sounded like, it had to be psychedelic!” The album was made available for free as the first release from Bad Panda Records.

Hard Mix — “Memories”

Defaults, the first full-length from Hard Mix, was released today on Dovecote Records and it is being offered up as a free download! Always exciting to see artists do something like this. And as first impressions go, Defaults is soul-driven envelope, backed up by asphyxiating electronic stamps and a cascading cadence of the smoothest ink, packaged and sent directly to you. Only thing that is left to do, is to forward the message along to as many people as you know.
