Praything — “The Fetter”

Ju Kovacevich’s presence is easily admired around a certain FL community. His project; Praything is centered around much of the admiration, where its live nature opens up an entirely new perspective for the project. “The Fetter” returns to a lot of those characteristics and also finds itself fitting among everything Praything has released so far.

To be released on his upcoming EP, Kovacevich also lists “Philip Glass, Alzheimer’s disease, and those mood compilation discs from the 90’s with Enya and Enigma” as the inspiration behind the release.

Peace Arrow — “Gems”

The luft air between Mitch’s vocals and every bit of instrumentation/organic-samples provided becomes an insanely recognizable production on Peace Arrow’s debut single. Even more so at times, it’s an almost Avey Tare added feel where Mitch Myers has previously found with the results from his other Gainesville project, Hear Hums.

The two percussion-wielding Gainesvillites actually set out for FMLY Fest several days ago without a single drum. Instead, Kenzie brought along a xylophone, a bow, and a few toy melodies. With Mitch on his guitar and much more added vocals present, you could see Peace Arrow’s solemn existence before it was even properly born. Its presence is clearly here now and I wouldn’t skip a beat on hitting the play button for the project’s only track.

Talked to David Levesque yesterday for a bit during FL FMLY Fest and just the overall excitement for his band’s debut album continued to build. So much, that I felt the need to share this track so you could all know.

Levek’s album is out Sept. 25th on Lefse.

Levek — “Solemn Feeling Forever Healing” [Daytrotter Session]

Don’t space out on the new Daytrotter session. Gainesville’s own—Levek has finally stopped by at one of the affiliated studios and recorded a nearly 23 minute live performance. Levek’s debut full-length is an all-around highly anticipated album for me and “Solemn Feeling Forever Healing” is one of my most favorite tracks to hear live, so I’m glad I’ll be able to listen to both spectrums of the recording.

Laurent premiered Tree Hopping / Gabriel Berrios’s new project; Bayatas, last week and included a couple of new mp3s to highlight the post. “The Hand Effect” plays its role as a finely suited fit for the potential Gabriel has show in the past. The sporadically sequenced, miami-influenced tracks are every bit as interesting as they open up. It won’t take long for you to enjoy the sounds, so listen below!

[RECOMMENDED SHOW] It feels crazy that this show is actually happening tonight. I’ve been excited all week and the entire event will finally unfold along tonight’s warm breeze in Gainesville. Hundred Waters is set to release their album this week and to celebrate; they’ve scheduled an album release party for the evening. Joined by Levek, Maximino, Ghost Fields, Vestibules, and Euglossine this night should end up spewing all sorts of Gainesville-brewed vibes. See you there!
Pre-Order of Hundred Waters’ self-titled available via Elestial Sound.

Hundred Waters — “Visitor”

Hope you guys don’t mind the aggregation here, but I really need to continue extending the love I’ve got towards this release and also, specifically, this track. There’s a lot more you can read over at the newly-launched PORTALS, this is now just another place for this track to dwell and for me to doze off to.

Oh Fortuna — “Nightmares” [Demo]

Recently uploaded ‘secret’ Oh Fortuna track is an absolute tympanic slayer. Though, “Nightmares” is far from complete here; we’re just being teased, while also voluntarily being held hostage at vocal-point through JT Bringardner’s undeniably catchy hooks. I just hope we get to hear more new stuff from these FL legends. Oh and I was also told that they absolutely killed it at FMLY Fest. Maybe a video or two might surface in the near-future.

Hear Hums — “Toad Licking”

Lots of new things have fallen into place since Hear Hums have come back from their East Coast tour. While the two have pushed back their release of Opens, its entire static anticipation is still there. The production is being much more emphasized with this release and it should be exciting to hear the different experimental layers unfold from the mastering process that’s going on around this time.

In the meantime, Hear Hums have sent along a new song they’ve been working on for the Sample Based Life Vol. 2 collection. This will be curated by Sumsun, who will provide a bank of various sounds for other musicians & bands to choose from to create their piece. If you haven’t heard about the magic that’s behind this idea, you’ll want to check out Volume 1.

For now though, take in “Toad Licking” and its sporadic vocal samples that build up to an amazing choir of vocals & whispers / various sounds; it’s really wonderful.
